Release Dates Set For New Alien & Predator Movies

Good times are here again for fans of '80s movie aliens, specifically fans of the Aliens/Predator universe. The two franchises both have new movies on the horizon, and now studio Twentieth Century Fox has revealed the exact dates when we'll be able to see them.

Alien: Covenant, which is a Ridley Scott-directed sort of sequel to Prometheus that will further bridge the gap between that film and Alien, is set to invade theaters on August 4, 2017. This is kind of a big deal, because if you ignore Prometheus and the Aliens vs Predator series, this is th e first proper Aliens movie since Alien Resurrection twenty years earlier. The movie follows the spacecraft Covenant, which finds Michael Fassbender's android David living alone on a deserted planet, and will reportedly be bringing back the iconic Xenomorph aliens in their various iconic roles; including everybody's favorite: the facehugger.

The next Predator film, titled The Predator and helmed by Iron Man 3 director Shane Black, is due for release on March 2, 2018That series hasn't had quite such a long wait between films, but the last movie in the series, 2010's Predators, was largely ignored by domestic audiences, grossing less money in North America than the original did in 1987 - and that's without accounting for inflation. With a full two years before release, hopefully there's time to right the ship in the new film by arranging an update on the epic handshake between Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers from the original.

Both of these films have the potential to inject some life into their franchises, and the news that they each have confirmed release dates moving forward should make their fans very happy.
