Alien Day Reveals New Xenomorph and First Official Image from Alien: Covenant

Alien Day gave us lots of fun tidbits about Neill Blomkamp's in-limbo Alien 5 movie, particularly concept art of a grown-up Newt, but today 20th Century Fox is trying to top that with our first official look at Alien: Covenant.

Alien: Covenant

The picture isn't incredibly revealing, except to remind us that Covenant is the name of the ship that travels to the Engineers' planet in addition to a religious metaphor. The insignia for the crew includes what looks like the angels from the Ark of the Covenant, a Biblical wooden chest that contained the Ten Commandments, as well as the Weyland-Yutani corporation logo, naturally.

Alien Day also revealed a figurine for a new type of Xenomorph called the "Alien King," from Sideshow Collectibles:

As much as I like to see new types of aliens rear their ugly heads, I desperately hope this isn't part of the official mythology. The entire idea that "if the aliens have a queen, they must have a king" is stupid, since the Xenomorphs imitate hive insects like bees, who only have queens and workers. (Plus, their reasoning is pretty sexist, considering that they wanted to make the king look "more dangerous" compared to the queen's "feminine" appearance.)

So this looks pretty cool, but hopefully it won't come anywhere near Alien: Covenant:
