Alien Covenant SXSW news roundup, new Facehugger unveiled?
Last night, 20th Century Fox showcased 15 minutes of footage from Alien: Covenant and the reaction from attendees was unanimous - Alien: Covenant will blow your mind. This article will detail the updates which took place at the event.
SXSW Alien: Covenant footage description
Thanks to a user on reddit, we have a fairly detailed description of what the 15 minutes of footage consisted of. In summary, the footage involved Billy Crudup's character, Oram as he meets with David. We learn that David has been trying to create life and that he feels he has created the "perfect specimen", sound familiar? Check out the full description below, but be aware of spoilers:
One of the crew somehow meets David (from Prometheus) who has been living on the planet for over a decade, experimenting with the black ooze from Prometheus. He tells the person how he’s been testing it with a variety of genetic techniques, in an attempt to create life. He shows the person all his failed attempts and tells him that he thinks he’s figured out how the create the perfect specimen. He just needs one more thing. He leads the person into another room and shows him some eggs. These eggs, of course, contain facehuggers. And one attaches itself to the man’s face.
A new breed of Facehugger
In addition to the footage, Fox gave out some pretty sweet Alien: Covenant swag. One of which caught our attention - similar to the crew shirts worn by Alien: Covenant's art department, this shirt features a Facehugger on its front (created by Covenant concept artist Dane Hallett). However, fans will be quick to notice some blatant differences between this and the classic Hugger we're used to seeing. Could this be a PROTO-Hugger? Or possibly even a Ptaetorian Facehugger? Or is it merely an underdeveloped attempt by David at creating the iconic Facehugger? Check it out below and let us know what you think in the comments!
Q&A with Ridley Scott and Cast
A Q&A session also took place with Ridley Scott, Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender and Danny McBride. To summarize the answers they gave:
- Alien: Covenant 2 is ready to begin production next year.
- Daniels is NOT related to Ripley.
- Alien: Covenant's runtime will be roughly 2 hours and 2 minutes.
